Lipofilling

Lipofilling or lipotransfer (fat transfer) is an efficient technique whereby we use a patient's own fat as a permanent filler to add volume where needed.

The fat is harvested locally with thin cannulas, through small incisions, using conventional liposuction or liposculpture. The liposculpture or liposuction can be limited to the lipofilling only, but the procedure can also be combined with a broader liposuction / liposculpture. After filtering, the isolated fat cells are injected into the deficient area(s). In addition to adding volume, lipofilling reduces scarring, improves the quality and elasticity of the overlying skin. The procedure is considered very safe since we use the patient’s own fat.
 
Indications

• To add volume in the face (cheekbones, cheeks, cleavage, etc.)
• To increase breast volume (e.g. to correct an asymmetry)
• For buttock augmentation
• To fill in scars or other imperfections on the body

Procedure
The fat is harvested through liposuction, usually from the stomach, the hips or the thighs. After filtering, the isolated living fat cells are injected into the desired area(s). Recent studies have shown that fat tissue also contains stem cells improving skin quality, elasticity and scarring. Lipofilling is performed under local or general anaesthesia, depending on the extent of the liposuction.
 
When are the results visible?
Results are visible after 3 months, when the swelling has disappeared.
